Ciao Smiles Pediatric Orthodontic Treatments
We offer several different therapies to treat our patients, but regardless of the therapy chosen, the goal remains the same: Correct the foundation first, then align the teeth. Let's discuss the best solution for your child.
Traditional Braces
The Ciao Smiles approach with Braces is different from “Traditional” methods. We treat kids early to start identifying and treating the root causes of problems. By supporting the growth and development of the whole body, we allow the mouth and teeth to properly develop, so the need for traditional braces is either eliminated or greatly reduced.
We do not believe that forceful methods, extractions, and retractive orthodontics are beneficial either for whole-body wellness, or proper function of teeth and the jaw.
Invisalign for Children
Dr. Moy has worked with Invisalign clear aligner therapy since the 1990’s, as one option that can be beneficial for some patients at the right time.
The design of Invisalign aligners can greatly impact the health of teeth, bone, and the surrounding tissues as well as the bite and the alignment of the whole body, especially when used for children.
While we use Invisalign to correct malocclusion and other orthodontic problems, we ensure to not reduce the teeth volume, or force teeth to tilt in order to cosmetically align them.
Comprehensive Oromyofunctional Therapy
Treating oromyofunctional issues is an important part of CIAO Smiles’ comprehensive philosophy in treating the whole body. Our goal is to address the root cause of common orthodontic problems.
Therapy may improve facial skeletal growth and development, breathing, chewing, swallowing, oral habits, speech, occlusion, posture, sleep, temporomandibular joint movement, oral hygiene, facial esthetics, restricted oral movement, and stability of orthodontic treatment.
We incorporate VoiceGym, a complete exercise program for developing and maintaining the coordination and efficiency of voice, body, and brain. The program was designed by a voice teacher and musician, for training the body and brain to produce a voice with resonance and power.
Dr. Moy and Dr. Nakako will provide oromyofunctional therapy as part of comprehensive ALF treatment or on its own based on each person’s personalized needs.
Oral Appliances
Myobrace is a preventive treatment that addresses the habits that lead to crooked teeth. This results in straightening the teeth and supporting healthy development of the jaw and mouth, while supporting healthy breathing, chewing, eating habits, and facial development.
Another benefit of Myobrace is that it can be implemented at a younger age, preventing orthodontic issues before they really take hold. In addition, for some patients, Myobrace can result in shorter duration of orthodontic treatment.
Myomunchee is an oral trainer that assists in facial growth and teeth alignment. Training orofacial muscles early in childhood promotes optimal facial growth, alignment and development as well as nasal breathing. The “munching” done on the Myomunchee strengthens the muscles needed to promote healthy oral development and prevents an improper swallow while using the Myomunchee. In addition, it can help keep teeth clean.
